Crossbred lambs and Merinos ease, mutton dearer

SA LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE DUBLIN REPORT

Sheep – 19 May

A fair to average quality yarding of 4000 lambs and 650 sheep came forward this week.

The usual trade and processor buyers were active along with specialty butchers, feeders and restockers with the overall quality returning an easier price trend.

Heavy crossbred lambs and Merinos were most affected as a small yarding of mutton sold firm to dearer on the previous sale.

Light crossbred stores sold from $180 to $220 as the better types sold from $230 to $240 per head. Trade weights ranged from $245 to $260, heavy trades sold from $260 to $275 with the few extreme heavy weights selling from $300 to $367 per head.

Light Merino stores sold from $130 to $150 as the better types sold from $190 to $220 per head. Trade weights ranged from $220 to $230, heavy trades sold from $240 to $255 with a small number of extreme heavy weights selling from $285 to $310 per head.

Light mutton sold from $120 to $150. Trade weights ranged from $180 to $210 with heavy weights fetching $230 to $280 per head.
