Driver charged after fatal crash at Angle Vale

A Northern Suburbs man has been arrested and charged following a fatal crash at Angle Vale on Friday.

Just before 10.30am on 1 May, police were called to Curtis Road near Julian Road after a Holden sedan crashed into a stobie pole. The impact of the crash caused the Holden to ignite.

The driver was able to safely escape the vehicle, but unfortunately the passenger was trapped in the burning vehicle. Despite efforts of police and members of the public, the fire could not be extinguished until MFS arrived at the scene.

The passenger, 29-year-old Brahma Lodge man died at the scene while the driver, a 22-year-old Penfield man, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Curtis Road was closed between Frisby Road and Heaslip Road while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene, but would reopen later in the afternoon.

As a result of investigations, Major Crash Investigators arrested the driver and charged him with causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unlicenced and breach of bail. He was issued an instant loss of licence until further order.

The man was bailed to appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 31 July.

The 29-year-old man’s death was the 41st life lost on SA roads this year.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any dashcam footage has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or on 1800 333 000 and quote #11550.
