Mid North sheep producers are invited to attend a pair of free workshops in the region next month, which will provide information on how to improve lamb mortality on the farm.
Livestock SA is running four half-day sessions in June, aimed to help producers reduce lamb losses and lift marketing percentages with practical, on-farm strategies to apply this season.
After a pair of sessions in the South East at Struan and Millicent, sessions come to the Melrose Showgrounds on 10 June, then at the Clare Showgrounds on 11 June.
All sessions run from 9am to 12 noon, and the Mid North sessions will feature livestock consultant Deb Scammell from Talking Livestock, based at Sevenhill, as well as veterinarian Dr Jack Coffey from Mt Bryan Veterinary Services.
Topics discussed at the sessions include feeding and survival, which includes key nutritional drivers for lamb survival and how to avoid any common mistakes.
A focus on paddock selection will discuss how paddock choice impacts lambing outcomes and practical criteria for better decision making. Finally the sessions will investigate lamb mortalities, such as what to look for in the paddock and how to turn observations into actionable learnings with post mortem demonstrations.
