Hoggets mostly dearer as quality down on previous sale

SA LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE DUBLIN REPORT

Sheep – 28 April

Numbers remained similar as agents offered 7400 lambs and 1500 sheep. Quality was not up to the previous sale, however prices remained generally firm with store crossbreds and mutton the exception as they sold to an easier trend.

Hoggets sold mostly dearer in a better selection of quality. The usual trade and processor buyers were active along with feeders and specialty butchers, with restocker activity not matches the previous sale as store crossbreds eased by $10 to $15 per head.

Agents quoted the best of the crossbred lambs making 1100 cents to 1150 cents dress weight.

Crossbred light stores sold from $180 to $220 as the better types ranged from $235 to $250 per head. Trade weights ranged from $245 to $260, heavy trades sold from $265 to $280 with extra heavy weights fetching $320 to $424 per head.

Light Merino stores sold from $130 to $180 as the better types sold from $210 to $245. Trade weights sold from $230 to $245, heavy trades ranged from $265 to $280 with the few extra heavy weights selling from $285 to $360 per head.

Light mutton sold from $120 to $150, trade weights sold from $160 to $198 with heavy sheep selling from $210 to $270 per head. Rams sold from $120 to $130 per head.
