Local NBN upgrades underway

Upgrade works on the National Broadband Network (nbn) fixed wireless network is underway in an effort to provide faster speeds and extended coverage to residents in Light, Adelaide Plains and Clare and Gilbert Valleys council areas.

Works are taking place on fixed wireless towers at Hamley Bridge, Stockport, Dublin, Parham, Thompson Beach and Greenock, which will see nbn introducing new technology and replacing some hardware on the towers.

Upgrades will include 4G technology and software enhancements, as well as introducing 5G mmWave technology to help deliver more coverage and minimise congestion, and potentially provide access to higher speed tiers on the nbn Fixed Wireless network.

Head of nbn Local SA Naomi Read said there was an increasing demand for faster internet from homes and businesses across Australia, and there was continuing investment in the network to stay ahead of demand.

“We are excited to have begun work upgrading the nbn Fixed Wireless network in the region, which will be a game changer for up to a million households and businesses across Australia,” she said.

“These tower works are critical to the delivery of our program but will mean some planned outages that may affect homes and businesses and their ability to use their nbn service while the work is underway.”

Over the coming weeks homes and businesses in the areas where works are taking place may experience impact to their service in coming weeks, however nbn is looking to minimise interruptions as much as possible, such as migrating users to temporary connections.

There will be times when towers will be taken offline and Ms Read says nbn apologises for any inconvenience, and appreciates the community’s patience.

Impacted homes and businesses may have been notified of these planned outages via their retail service provider.
