Where to pay your respects on ANZAC Day

For those planning to attend ANZAC Day services this weekend, here is a summary of events happening across local council areas.

ADELAIDE PLAINS COUNCIL

Four ANZAC Day services will be held across the Adelaide Plains Council area on Saturday.

Mallala RSL invites people to attend the dawn service at the Mallala Memorial, in front of the Mallala Hotel, which begins at 6am. This year will RSL is commemorating the 75th anniversary of National Service (Nashos).

Breakfast will then be served at the RSL Clubrooms from 7am, with proceedings then moving to the Mallala Bowling Club after 11am for social bowls and some Two Up.

Two Wells Regional Action Team is once again putting on a dawn service for the community at the War Memorial on Old Port Wakefield Road. People are advised to arrive at 6am for a 6.21am start.

TWRAT will then hold an ANZAC Day breakfast at the Two Wells Community Centre, behind the oval, after the service, with a cooked breakfast and juice for $5 per head, children under 12 free. Free tea and coffee is also available.

For Port Parham residents, a dawn service will be held at the Port Parham Sports and Social Club at 12 First Street from 6.10am. The service will include a catafalque party and bugler from Edingburgh RAAF Base. The service will be followed by a breakfast in the sports and social club.

Thompson Beach Progress Association will hold an ANZAC Day dawn service at The Shed on Ruskin Road, starting from 6am. The service will be followed by breakfast of bacon and egg rolls or sandwiches for a gold coin donation.

BARUNGA WEST COUNCIL

A total of five services across four locations within the Barunga West Council area.

Port Broughton will hold a dawn service at 6am at Foreshore War Memorial, followed by breakfast at the RSL. There will be a second service and an ANZAC march in Port Broughton at 11am at Foreshore War Memorial, followed by lunch at the RSL.

Bute will hold a 6.30am dawn service at War Memorial followed by breakfast and an ANZAC march.

Alford will have a 7am service at War Memorial followed by breakfast. Tickera will have an 8am service at War Memorial followed by breakfast.

CLARE & GILBERT VALLEYS COUNCIL

Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council will hold a spread of services across the region on Saturday, 25 April.

Clare will have a dawn service at 6am at WWI Memorial Gates by the Oval followed by breakfast at the clubroom.

Auburn will hold a dawn service at 6.15am at WWI and WWII Memorial, Memorial Place, followed by a sausage sizzle at Ulster Park.

Riverton will also hold a dawn service at 6.15am at Scholz Park followed by a sausage sizzle breakfast with gold coin donation.

Mintaro will have a 6.30am dawn service, with attendees asked to assemble by 6.25am by the War Memorial outside the Mintaro Institute, followed by ‘Gunfire’ breakfast at the Institute with a gold coin donation appreciated.

Saddleworth will have a 9am service, with attendees asked to assemble by 8.45am at the Soldiers Memorial, Burra Road, followed by morning tea at Institute supper room.

Tarlee will hold a 10am service at War Memorial, Gilbert Street.

Manoora at 11am will have a service at Manoora Soldiers Memorial Supper Room

Watervale will host an afternoon service at 5pm, with attendees asked to assemble by 4.45pm at the War Memorial and refreshments to follow at the Vale.

DISTRICT COUNCIL OF MOUNT REMARKABLE

A range of ANZAC services will take place across the District Council of Mount Remarkable.

A service will be heald at the Wilmington Soldier’s Memorial Hall at 6am with a free morning tea to follow the service ahead of the local football and netball fixtures with a service to be held at game as well.

A 6:15am service will be held at the Appila Memorial Hall courtesy of the Appila Improvement Association with a cooked breakfast available for $15 per person or $30 per family (cash only) after the service.

Boleroo Centre will have a service at the War Memorial on Arthur Street at 6:15am, followed by a breakfast courtesy of the Booleroo Centre & Districts Lions Club. Individuals or groups are welcome to lay a wreath.

The Port Germein Memorial Gardens will be holding a dawn service commencing at 6:30am. Local organisations and the public are invited to lay wreaths or poppies at the memorial Garden at the service or during the day.

Following the service, the public is invited to join for a breakfast at the Port Germein Bowling Club. A gold coin donation is appreciated.

The front of the Wirrabara Institute at 35 High Street will play host to a service at 9:30am, although inclement weather could relocate the service inside the Institute. The library will be open and tea and coffee will be available for a gold coin donation.

A 10:30am service will be held at Weroona Island at Flinders View Park featuring a flag raising and a proceeding sausage sizzle.

DISTRICT COUNCIL OF PETERBOROUGH

The Peterborough RSL Sub Branch will lead commemoration ceremonies with assistance from Chaplain Envoy Karen Chambers (rtd) at the Rotunda and Cenotaphs in the Town Square in the Main Street.

A short service will be held including a short address, two hymns lead by the Peterborough Singers, prayers for the fallen, the laying of wreaths and the ceremonial lowering of the Australian Flag.

The public is invited to lay wreaths or floral tributes but are asked to present before the start of the ceremony so that names can be taken and read out at the appropriate time.

A cooked breakfast will be held after at the Town Hall for a $5 fee.

Following breakfast, the RSL will open the clubrooms and bar at 82 – 84 Main Street for fellowship and a wind down.

LIGHT REGIONAL COUNCIL

ANZAC Day events have been planned once again for the communities of Freeling, Kapunda and Wasleys this Saturday.

Freeling RSL is inviting people to attend the ANZAC Day Dawn Service, which will take place at the Cenotaph at the corner of Hanson and Gray streets in Freeling at 6.30am. A march will also takes place, which will form up from the Freeling Post Office at 10 Hanson Street.

Following the service, there will be a breakfast served at the Freeling Institute at 8 Clarke Street at about 7.15am. A small game of Two Up will also be held, so people are encouraged to bring their money and coins if they want to join in.

Kapunda RSL is inviting the community to attend the Dawn Service, which will begin at 6.30am. A section of Clare Road from Church Street to the intersection will be closed to traffic for the service.

After the service, the Kapunda and Light Agricultural Show Society will serve a gunfire breakfast inside the RSL Clubrooms, with refreshments also served. A memorabilia table will also be set up with badges and raffle tickets available.

Wasleys Community Group will once again host and ANZAC Day service at the Wasleys Institute at 9am. Anyone with photos or mementos are being encouraged to bring them along as tables will be set up for displays.

A light morning tea will be served afterwards and the book ‘Their Duty Done’ by Daryl Barker, chronicling those from Wasleys and District who served in World War I, will be available for purchase for $25.

NORTHERN AREAS COUNCIL

There will be numerous remembrance services on ANZAC Day held across the Northern Areas Council district, allowing you to pay respect at a range of venues.

A 7am service will be held at the memorial Gates of Georgetown Memorial Park with light refreshments to follow the service.

Gladstone will host a dawn service set to begin at 6:15am at the ANZAC Memorial on the Main Street. A sausage sizzle will follow for those in attendance.

A dawn service will also be held at Jamestown to take place at 6:15am at the gates of Memorial Park with breakfast to follow at 7am at the RSL clubrooms with a donation requested for entry.

A Laura service will be held at the Cenotaph at 6:40am with a breakfast to follow at the RSL Hall before the Laura Folk Fair festivities kick into gear.

Spalding will also host a service at the Spalding War Memorial at 6am with all members of the public invited. A barbecue breakfast will be provided as well as refreshments for a gold coin donation.

ORROROO CARRIETON DISTRICT COUNCIL

Anzac Day services will be held in Carrieton and Orroroo on ANZAC Day.

Carrieton will hold two services at 6:15am and 11am, with a sausage sizzle breakfast at the Caravan Park to follow the Dawn Service.

The Orroroo service will be held at the War Memorial on the Main Street at 6am with a breakfast at the RSL to follow.

A Dawn Service will also take place at the Terowie War Memorial at the t-section of Main Street and Besanko Road at 6.15am. Breakfast will be available after the service.

Finally, an ANZAC Day service will take place at the Robertstown War Memorial, located at the Robertstown War Memorial Community Centre, beginning at 9.30am. All are welcome.

REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOYDER

Four services are being held across the Regional Council of Goyder on ANZAC Day.

The Burra RSL will hold an ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Rotunda in Market Square at 6.30am. This will be followed by refreshments in the Councl/RSL room after the service, and a Gunfire Breakfast will be served at Cafe 67 from 8.30am.

The Eudunda community is invited to attend the War Memorial on Gunn Street at 6.15am for a 6.30am service.

Following the service, all medal wearers and service personnel are invited to join the traditional parade down to the RSL Clubrooms, and all are welcome to come to the clubrooms for light refreshments.

WAKEFIELD REGIONAL COUNCIL

Communities across Wakefield Regional Council will hold services for ANZAC Day throughout Saturday, with local residents encouraged to attend.

In Balaklava, the local RSL will hold a dawn service at the Balaklava Triangle at 5.45am. People are encouraged to arrive from 5am and warm up with a free cuppa in the CWA rooms.

It is a standing service however Balaklava and District Lions Club will provide chairs for those requiring it. A traditional ‘Banjo’ breakfast of bacon and egg rolls will be cooked by the Balaklava CFS following the service, available by donation.

A smaller private service of remembrance will be held at the Balaklava Soldiers Memorial Hospital at 9am, with assistance of Ira Parker staff and residents inside the hospital. A light morning tea to follow.

An ANZAC Day dawn service will take place in Owen at the War Memorial, outside the Post Office at 6.15am. Following the service a breakfast will be served in the Owen Hall, cooked by the Owen CFS.

A dawn service will be held at the Hamley Bridge Institute at 11 Gilbert Street at 6.30am. This will be followed by a breakfast inside the institute.

The Port Wakefield community is asked to attend the ANZAC Day dawn service at the Soldiers’ Memorial Arch at the Port Wakefield Oval at 6am.

Further north a service will be held at the Snowtown Memorial Garden on Fourth Street at 7am, and the Brinkworth community will hold a service at the old RSL building at 77 Main Street, beginning at 8am.

Finally, a service will be held at the Blyth War Memorial at 23 South Terrace at 9.30am.
